A picture postcard village
Located close to Hadrian's Wall, the lovely
village of Matfen is well worth spending some time in.
This eighteenth-century planned estate village was originally
established by the Blackett family.
With a gently flowing stream, village
green and attractive stone dwellings, Matfen is as unspoilt
as it has ever been. Built some 200 years ago, the attractive,
creeper-covered Black Bull Inn fronts the village green
and has low beams and open fires.
Golfing nirvana
The village is dominated by Matfen Hall, built in 1830
by Sir Edward Blackett. This imposing ancestral home
has been converted into a luxury 4-star country house
hotel. The hotel boasts a state-of-the-art spa and leisure
club. The magnificent grounds of the hall boast an excellent
eighteen hole golf course is rated as one of the finest
in the North East.

to cyclists. With an external garden terrace area it's

and cake. Easily located in the centre of the village.
